Boxer several times successfully came up to the adversary and inflicted a series of blows. Now he entered in the close battle. Almost all his inputs in the close combat are interrupted by clinches. Apparently he gets too close to the opponent and gives grab his hands. And the development of attack has been slow. He allows the opponent to approach and grab yourself Maybe he isn’t good enough in a close combat. Indeed, most of the Soviet boxers are not good enough in a close combat. They are inferior in the art of close combat many boxers from Cuban, Korean, American. During the approach to the opponent, they make many mistakes. They skips punches, miss, grab and push the adversary. The reason is that the close combat in children’s and youth sports school beginning to learn too late, when the boxer has already formed. Film acquaint with the peculiarities of training athletes for melee Lesson will hold honored coach of the USSR Vladimir Lavrov We are starts to study the elements of a close combat today. Sidesteps, short punches and protections from them. The rack in a close combat you already know This is a very comfortable rack for a close combat. You can easy to strike from the bottom, from left or right hand and you can defend yourself. But if you make just one step left or right. You can see I keep handy rack for boxing left or right hand but an opponent have uncomfortable stand for boxing right hand in this case. You see? This means that your opponent’s hand is off. He can use only one hand. If I take a step in the opposite direction another opponent’s hand is off. I can use both hands in this case. You see? This steps are very important in a close combat The one who knows how to do well this, he usually master in a close combat. May be the boxer who did side-steps better than other boxers was Laszlo Papp Papp from Hungary was an Olympic gold medalist three times. He did side-steps ideally. Step right – one. Return step -two. Step left – three Return step – four. Step right – one. Return step -two. Step left – three Return step – four. It good. Look here, you make right bottom punch leaning on the left leg – one. Look here, you make left bottom punch leaning on the right leg – two. Look here, you make right punch leaning on the left leg, then left punch leaning on the right leg. Get in the rack. The rack for a close fight. Stand face to me, frontal post. Let’s go. One Two Three Four No. No. Don’t move, guys. On a spot. Look here. One, two, three, four, on a spot. Only the center of gravity is transferred from the right leg to the left and vice versa. You caught this, good. You have to make four steps forward and make four strike. Look here. Bottom right punch – one. Bottom left punch – two. Tree Four. Make small step with every strike. Is it clear? And the center of gravity transfers from the one leg to another. Let’s start. One, two, three, four. Return back, back. One, two, three, four. Guys, we’ll practice single body shots on a punching bag (heavy bag). Time to work. Studying of close fight techniques should be started at the end of the first year of boxing learning. You should study the base actions first of all. It’s the rack for a close fight, side-steps, body shots and the cover-up defense. Soften the blow. Get away from a blow. It’s good. One. Another arm strike. Two. One. Two. One. Two. One. Two. The minimum melee distance should become familiar to the beginner. In the close distance, you make four punches – two body shots and two to the head. Temp – one, two, three, four. Not faster, your partner should have time to defend themselves. Let’s try. That’s not easy. Don’t hurry. One. Two. Three. Four. One. Two. Three. Four. Movement forward or backward we have to combine with side-steps. Look here. You go forward and I do. Do you see? It should be a powerful punch in a melee. If you are unstable, it’s bad. You’ll never do it. Let’s go. Start again. Again. Stop. Look at me. You go to me I’m going to the right and you pass by me then you can’t do anything. You should go to me and have to follow me. Start. It’s good. Stop. You go to the long distance. You should be in close fight distance. Start. Go for his shoulder. It’s good. Again. It’s good. Do not raise your head high. On a stage of studying the close combat, a novice boxer has to deliver the weak blows to the opponent. If my opponent strikes me, I’ll be smiling, therefore, strikes should be weak. Your strikes should not be strong. You’ve to trust each other, you’ll work out better. If you don’t trust each other you are shackled. One of you is striking another who is in a defense. It’s not good. You should be calm. It’s not scared to be stricken. You’ve to trust each other. Your strikes should not be strong. It is recommended to give 8-10 minutes at the end of each workout to master the technique. Further should be an improvement of tactics and techniques of a close fight is carried out.

  2. In the boxing gym we are training Russian boxing style, and our coach learned it long time ago from a former Russian Kazakh boxer called Emrullah Sultan. It's very active and fun style I love it, but it sure doesn't much moves to get in opponent's close range, always counter punches which gives taller opponents all advantage at same weight. If you are shorter than your opponents like Tyson, this style is disadvantage.

  3. The Soviet fighter in the ring is Kostya Zhu. From what I understand the Soviets used to complain
that they were ok from long range (example- the long hook) but their lack of in-fighting skills (especially compared to U.S.).
    was "killing" them.
