Caller: AOC Endorsement Will HURT Bernie

Caller: AOC Endorsement Will HURT Bernie

We do have a voicemail number. That number is two one nine two, David P many
voicemails coming in about the news that members of the squad, including Alexandria Casteo,
Cortez, Congresswoman from New York will be or already have endorsed Bernie Sanders in
the democratic primary for president. Uh, here is one perspective that came in via
voicemail. Hey David, this is billing Cali. Everyone is making a big deal about AOC endorsing
Bernie and maybe I’m missing something, but they’re so closely politically aligned. She’s basically his protege. All the Bernie Sanders are going to be supporting
AOC and by first. So I’m confused as to why, uh, you know, the
YouTube progressive voices and the corporate media and everything is making such a big
deal. When I don’t know that AOC endorsement is
actually going to bring in new blood to Bernie’s campaign, new voters, new interests or whatever. It seems to me that it’s just solidifying
who the base of Bernie Sanders supporters are. Yeah. Listen that, we talked about this yesterday
on the bonus show. I’m open to having my mind change, but that
is basically my view. Bernie has a big deficit to make up mathematically
in the polls. A lot of the constituency of someone like
AOC who is saying, I’m not sure who I’m going to vote for, but once AOC tells me who she
endorses, that’s who I’m going to go for. A lot of those people are already supporting
Bernie Sanders and so I don’t think that this is going to move the needle. Now the ag man called in and he had an even
more cynical approach. He believes that this endorsement may hurt
Bernie Sanders. Take a listen to this. Hey Dave. I think, um, the squad backing Bernie right
now is going to move the needle, is can move the needle away from him and that’s it. You’re right. That people that like Bernie already like
or, but people that are middle of the ground, people that like Bernie and are kind of progressive
are going to see those super liberal economies backing him and say, no, no, that’s too much. I have to go towards Warren or go towards
Biden. So it’s gonna move the needle away from iden
and the squad, uh, supporting him is right now going to be the absolute turning points
and it’s going to, it’s going to be as close as he’s ever come right now. This is going to be it. It’s going to be Warren and Biden and I hate
that. I really freaking hate that. I love him. He started all of this and he’s getting shafted,
but it’s going to hurt him. The squad. A fellow brother. Yeah, shallow McMahon. But I totally disagree with the egg man. In this case, I don’t believe that the AOC
endorsement is going to help Bernie take the lead in the primary. But I also don’t think the AOC or squad endorsements
are going to turn people away from Bernie and I, I assume the ag man is joking about,
you know, socialist, communist, whatever in the squad. Um, because they’re not, at least as far as,
uh, as I’ve seen, um, all although they certainly tend towards a, a social democracy and more
worker’s rights in any way. That’s not really the issue here. I don’t think that this is an endorsement
that is going to do much one way or the other, but I am open to having my mind changed. So let me know if I am misinterpreting this. We’ve got a great bonus show for you today. We will talk about how Elon Musk smoking pot
on Joe Rogan’s program somehow ended up costing taxpayers $5 million. How is that possible? We will talk about it. We will talk about how 34 of the best selling
quote fruit drinks targeted to kids are not healthy, not a surprise. And we will also talk about a Chicago teacher’s
strike that is about to start, which will lead hundreds of thousands of kids in limbo. Pros, cons, and the impetus for all of this, all of these
great stories and more on today’s bonus show to become a member or a patron to get instant
access. The David Pakman [email protected] [inaudible].

  1. Let's listen to the people that told us that Hillary was the most electable candidate, because that worked out really well. Btw… how's President Clinton's first term going???

  2. It's all about the policies we need to become a decent and just society (MFA) and to survive (GND). Everything else is secondary. We need to build a progressive movement that has staying power and will continue to grow towards 2020 and beyond. That is happening.

  3. Isn’t that with most endorsements? They’re not that important…. they put the candidate in the news cycle and that’s it.

  4. I know it's a small thing, but I think that AOC's endorsement of Bernie is going to help him a little bit, if only because it shows that Bernie's not just standing out there on his own. That his message is getting through and starting to actually make change. Because where once there was only Bernie, now there's Bernie and the squad.

  5. I think this is not true. Even CNN admitted there are Latino voters who went from Bernie 2016 to Castro who like AOC are changing their minds after seeing AOC's speech. Honestly will these Warren stans still say this if the squad endorses her and campaigns with her? I think not. Lots of jealousy and concerted effort to attack here.

  6. She’s a fierce campaigner who showed us all that she can captivate people and ignite social change. Bernie and AOC aren’t gonna subtle for their own voters only, they’re hitting rural America hard this time around, and the grass roots movement depends on that. I think it’s certainly an important asset, but once Obama endorses him? (I have a feeling he might) THAT will be the bigger game changer

  7. I know a lot of young mainstream liberals (educated SJW types) that love AOC but aren't Bernie fans. The kinds that watch MSNBC and read the New York Times and are part of the resistance/ me too movements. I think it might make some of them give Bernie a second thought when they become more familiar with AOCs Justice Democrat roots.

  9. Hey David, I absolutely agree with your assessment about this particular issue, your analysis is spot on, but I do however have to add that if AOC was not to endorse Bernie, and instead endorsed a different candidate, how would that look. Honestly I was not expecting this endorsement from AOC, primary because it wasn't really needed, like it has been mentions both bases kind of support both of these individuals, but if AOC hadn't endorsed Bernie, it would have sent a negative message, and the needle as you put it, would have shifted down for Bernie, at least now even though the needle didn't go up significantly, although i hope it does, at least for the mean time it going to stay right where it is.

  10. So you refuse to talk about the AOC and Ilhan Omar endorsements and then when you finally do, you say they are a bad thing. It’s pretty clear from this and other things that you are a Warren supporter. Warren was courting AOC’s endorsement too. This was a big let down for her.

    Reply

  11. You are both wrong. The AOC, Ilhan Omar, and Michael Moore endorsements are already increasing Bernie support.

  12. You talk a lot about mathematically meeting standards to beat Warren I need you to give good criteria for having trust in a poll. You seem more uniquely suited to this task than anyone else I've asked however I wonder will you do it.

  13. AOC has called herself a socialist, and I'm more inclined to believe her on that point than I am Sanders on the same.

  14. So what you're missing with this line of thinking is that it take away the "Progressive" cover from all of the candidates have been trying to take from Sanders. Warren for example will lose from this.

So alot of ignorant dems that love the squad & hate Bernie are gonna be forced to re-examine their beliefs. It also debunks the Bernie bro myth & fake narrative that he's anti woman or not in touch with people of colour.

  19. Now that Bernie is back and looks healthy, he may start gaining in the polls. I don't think AOC's endorsement is going to make much difference. She's infamous, but she's not all that popular. She won her district largely because her opponent didn't bother to show up. She may not even get a second term. Michael Moore's endorsement is probably even a bigger deal.

  20. We’d be saying something completely different if AOC endorsed Warren. If she had endorsed warren people would be saying that’s huge and what a big deal that is. But since it’s Bernie it’s downplayed

  21. I think it will actually help him with the so called “feminist” identity people. I know other 20 something women who don’t like him because they think he’s anti -women (totally unfounded, they bought the Hilary propaganda completely) but they worship the squad.

  23. bernie had almost NO endorsements in 2016. he needed help. now he has the squad. the squad can get out there and visibly campaign for him all over the country. which he's not really had thus far. this is now a concerted effort. and they can explain his policies to people that may not get fully what bernie's plans are. they are more voices supporting them as well, instead of just bernie against the world. this may also be a tipping point were reluctant big names get off their perch and endorse as well. it creates him VIABILITY. yes, there could be some people on the fence before, that would now hate his association with the squad, and bail out. but that happens with ANY endorsement. yes, he could lose some racist, incel votes. methinks a lot of the anti-squad voters were already not going to vote for bernie anyhow, because: hate. so, the big take away is how hard the squad is going to turn this up. we're in new territory now. maybe when booker drops out, rosario dawson comes back into the fold. we have one year to add people. and one year to pull out more warren skeletons in her closet, and lies about her past.

But the AOC endorsement may go some way to prove that Warren is not the true progressive in this election.

  25. Corporate media is NOT making a big deal about AOC endorsement, I checked cnn nbc and fox news youtube the day after, CNN straight had no segment on it, NBC had a very short clip not even saying endorsed just titled AOC supports bernie, Fox surprisingly was the only one who did it justice they had video title AOC endorses Bernie

  26. If AOC is considered an anti-endorsement to the point that someone would stop supporting Bernie, that's a very particular type of voter. That's the malignant conservative voter profile. They wouldn't just shift to Warren or Biden in that case. They'd probably stick with Trump or something

  29. “The squad’s” endorsement of Bernie will hurt him. It’s gonna be Warren, Biden or Buttigieg, & Yang. Biden is losing momentum, just look at his Q2 & Q3 campaign donation while Yang’s was increase by huge numbers. He’s the only one who can back up his campaign promises with math & facts, and since he never hold any political office, he has a clean record. And the only one who can pull away supporters from Trump, he’s done it to me & other Trump supporters. The opposite of Donald Trump is an Asian man who likes MATH! #YangGang2020 #FreedomDividend #SecureTheBag

It may not super boost the campaign but it helps and in no way would hurt

  36. David doesn't like AOC. He has been negative about her and barely covered her from day one. It's strange. I think that some followers of Warren could go to Bernie as a result of the AOC endorsement if they didn't like that Bernie is a white male. AOC is also a very popular politician. I don't really trust David's analysis in this case.

  37. AOC is very, very popular among Democratic voters. According to recent polling her endorsement comes second only to former presidents voter-influence. More of Warren’s supporters view her favorably than Sanders supporters, meaning many who have been Warren-leaning for more superficial reasons will now have a substantial purpose to sway to Bernie. https://www.businessinsider.com/aoc-endorsement-bernie-sanders-will-hurt-elizabeth-warren-2019-10

  38. Ok, I’ll make an attempt to change David’s mind. The whole Bernie bro narrative is a thing that still fraudulently exists. The narrative is basically that Bernie is a candidate for white people. It is possible that some left leaning people of color fell away from Bernie and went to another candidate. In fact there was an msnbc segment where the guest described exactly this: people she knew fell away from Bernie and were now supporting Castro and now the AOC endorsement is starting to cause them to reassess. That narrative becomes increasingly hard to keep alive with the endorsement of the squad.

Also there is the reality that for the most part the coverage of Bernie from mainstream sources is comically negative most of the time. First of all Aocs endorsement is impossible to ignore as she tends to be ratings gold and it’s tough to put a negative spin on it.

This endorsement will definitely help Bernie, he's already said they plan to travel the country with him and campaign. Also, I just fail to see how having strong, young, women of color backing him wouldn't help.
Edit: Lastly, if this endorsement didn't matter, then the media and Warren supporters wouldn't have freaked out like they did when it happened.

Please could you shine a spotlight on this to show the significance of this issue and maybe comment on it?

Anyone who watched the Queens rally, and saw 25,000 people supporting Bernie (with over 5,000 turned away because there was no more room) can plainly see the grassroots support Bernie has now…Also #Berniesback was trending at #2 for quite a long time. He's even more passionate about winning now, and so are his supporters. I believe the actions of people who waited in line for hours, and the record number of supporters at that rally tell the real story. It's easy to say on the phone that you'll vote for candidate X, but to do what Bernie's supporters do, shows commitment. #Bernie2020 #NotMeUs #IWroteTheDamnBill 🔥

  47. How about Warren not endorsing Bernie who were fighting against Clinton machine in 2016? Strategically a good calculated move for Warren? How about in principle? AOC endorsed Bernie when he was in the hospital. It was not a good move strategically for AOC, but she did what she thinks is right. That kind truthfulness over calculation is badly needed in this corrupt American politics.

If AOC endorsed warren it would guarantee Bernie wouldn’t win the election, that’s where the endorsement is most significant, there are some upper middle class warren supporters that could flip to Bernie off this endorsement as well.

The real wild card is Ilhan Omar, she is my favorite person in all of Congress, I think she “can” help win states that used to have a Black Muslim presence but she might hurt his chances during the general.

  60. I could be wrong but i think this endorsement will help Bernie in the primary and hurt him if he makes it to the general election. I registered democrat last election to vote for bernie. Bernie and Tulsi (i know you dont like her) are the only canidates i will vote for in any presidential election this time. I know you don't share that sentiment. Its not a cult of personality for me. Im going by the bills they have tried to pass and the way they have voted. the other canidates look just as bad as trump to me if not worse when i look at their voting, their bills or the towns they gentrify and mismanage. I'm actually starting to like aoc because of her endorsement of bernie and other comments she has made questioning identity politics and comments from her in favor of social welfare programs. And i like the way Aoc has voted so far, but her green new deal could have been better thought out. A nonbinding agreement to impractical policy is what that looks like to me. Why bother? But the right hates aoc, she is a target of ridicule for them. The corporate dems dismiss her as an identitarian looney. But plenty of us in the neoliberal and progressive wings of the dnc support and like AOC. I could very well be wrong but this endorsement will help Bernie in the primary but it will hurt him in the general election because of right wing hatred for AOC. The right if you listen to them they dont hate bernie they think he is wrong but AOC they hate. This endorsement will help Bernie in the primary and hurt him in the general. There is another canidate who has progressive support (from the radical progressives) and has charmed many on the right. People on the right are saying they admire her. Even though they don't like her left wing politics they enamored they are enamored with her and see her as a modern day orwell. She is turning former trump supporters progressive. She would beat trump no contest in a general election. But she won't win the dnc. That will never happen. Bernie could possibly beat trump too in the general election but that will be closer. Trump could beat beat bernie. But i highly doubt either one will be the dnc canindate. I predict Warren will be the DNC caninidate and that Trump will beat her. I actually have money on this in the prediction markets. But im donating to Bernie and Tulsi and i will be voting for one of them in the primary. Yang and Williamson i like too but they dont have a history of bills and votes… something i use to decide who i vote for.

I think the AOC endorsement will help Bernie in the primaries and hurt him if he makes it to the general election. Bernie is the only one who can make it through the dem primaries and could stand a chance against Trump. Tulsi would easily beat Trump in a general election. She is turning alot of former right wingers onto progressive politics because she cann speak their language and argue for progressive policies even when assuming their biased language and talking points. But there is no way she could make it past the primaries, her support among democrats is only a sliver of the progressive wing. I really think Trump will be re-elected. Especially if Warren Biden or Buttigieg is the dnc canidate. Trump will slaughter them.
