Ken Loach on Why Labour Will Win the Election

Ken Loach on Why Labour Will Win the Election

The impact of Johnson
It’s like the emperor has no clothes. We can see clearly what his aim is. Get out of Europe fast. So that even the small protections
that Europe provides in working conditions
and the environment disappear. So he can do deals with people like Trump where it will open the door to the big American
multinationals to take over our public services, and the biggest issue of all
climate change will be disregarded. If we care about the future for our kids
and our grandchildren in my case, then that’s suicidal. Why are we destroying the planet? Why? Why do some areas of the country exist with nothing while other areas are overwhelmed with wealth? Why is the world like that?
It doesn’t need to be like that. The Labour government of the past failed
with its illegal war, its privatisations. We now have a chance with
the beginnings of a policy that will regenerate our country:
protect the environment, get ride of privatisation
in the public services. Why should Richard Branson make
a fortune out of the health service? It makes no sense. I mean, the questions are so obvious. Of course people, young people will see it and then they get confused
with this fog of stupidity, that you see in the press and
that is broadcast every morning. So politics becomes not the
simple answer to simple questions it becomes some arcane
procedure in a tiny part of London by people who speak a different language. Jeremy Corbyn, John McDonnell cut through that and that’s why they’re not allowed to speak. Empathy, solidarity, supporting each other, understanding each other, this is the essence of socialism. We’re naturally good friends,
we’re naturally neighbours and that’s the essence of our political system.
It’s the opposite of their political system. That’s why in the end we’ll win. Double Down News

  3. It seems like the tories are doing everything they can to lose this election without making it look like they are. I think their target is to lose, but only by enough to give Labour a minority government – with the Lib Dems as their cat's paw to stop Labour from being progressive. The tories don't want to be in the hot seat because the world economy is about to collapse and they'd love it for Labour/Corbyn to be "in charge" just as everything tanks again.

The tories have been so inept at delivering Brexit. Bearing in mind that the UK is barely in the EU anyway, it should have been a simple withdrawal agreement keeping the customs union and so on in order to keep a functioning trading partner with out nearest neighbour; we were only taking one further step away. But, for some strange reason the tories went into full-on "fannying about" mode and decided to destroy everyone's morale.

  5. Conservatives has always won seats from the commoners by giving them tit bits, while they continue to exploit the greedy. When will this cycle end? All those council flats sold 42% of them are being privately rented back at three times the cost of council rents, to those who cannot afford to buy. And in some cases using HB to fund their profits. Its lunacy.

  6. Listen to Ian Austin…. I am turning my back on the Labour Party and voting conservative…… corbyn is a racist and not fit to run the UK. All decent Labour supports need to do the decent thing and vote conservative….

  7. Sad to say, this puts far too much faith in the voting public. People will be easily persuaded to vote for Bojo and make Labour irrelevant all because of the lies they swallowed when Brexit was being sold to them. I sincerely hope I am wrong…

  8. And be left with…. What? Corbyn? A man who after four years still can't tell you what this country should do about Brexit? Does he not know? Or is he too scared to say? Or perhaps just holding on to votes at the expense of telling the truth? It's not like there aren't massive consequences for all of us, but Corbyn seems to be blissfully unaware.

The Tories are toxic and thoroughly awful, but Corbyn is unfit to run a Post Office, let alone a national government.

  10. Right on Ken, you are totally right that Bojo will alllow his fat cats to continue to dodge their taxes as well as that getting rid of privatizing our public services including our health service. Both Jeremy and John are the heroes of our social values as well as our social rights. Both Ken Loach and Noam Chomsky are an inspiration

  12. What a loathsomely ignorant and odiously dishonest little communist twerp.
Britain's working conditions and environmental efforts are actually the envy of many Europeans. Her economy, despite the drag imposed upon her by billions in annual contributions and having to prop up the still failing Euro, the corrupt EU central banking institutions and the ridiculous tariff barrier, is steadily pulling ahead and still developing as increasingly global (now 69%).
As for "rights", his words are astoundingly ignorant. His utter contempt for British peoples' ( and his own grandchildren's) uniquely precious 900 year old birthright, won in blood, to personal and parliamentary sovereignty, to Common Law and to Habeas Corpus is sickening.
He is, in effect, proposing that the people throw all of that away, and accept napoleonic, top-down dictatorial control by the unelected, unaccountable, secretly meeting, fully centralised, irremovable, plutocratic and increasingly totalitarian EU Commission.
In the last century alone, over a million people gave their lives to protect British people's liberty under their Magna Carta Rights, but Loach proposes that was all just a mistake and Britain should simply accept another shot at a totalitarian socialism system of rule.
    Good luck with that, sir.

The country would be in much better place with a decent gov who cared about workers rights. You tory deniers are part of the problem and mess this country is in.

  14. Someone seems to think that life is a movie and at the end good triumphs over evil, that is so naive. This nativity is the reason that you keep on losing, again, again and again.
