Sanders’ Scary History of Socialist Praise

Sanders’ Scary History of Socialist Praise

Bernie! Bernie! Bernie! Bernie! Bernie Sanders is now favored to win the Democratic nomination. Thank you New Hampshire! He may become America’s first
self-described socialist president. Although lately, Sanders doesn’t talk about revolutionary socialism. When I talk about democratic socialism, I’m not looking at Venezuela. I’m not looking at Cuba. Not anymore! But Sanders has a long track record of praising violent socialist revolutions. I went through hours of Sanders’ old speeches, and they reveal a lot about what Sanders believes. Everybody was totally convinced that Castro was the worst guy in the world. All the cuban people were going to rise up
in rebellion against Fidel Castro. They forgot that he educated the kids, gave them health care, totally transformed the society. You know, not to say that Fidel Castro or Cuba are perfect. Not perfect? What Castro did was bad enough that… thousands of people died trying to escape in makeshift rafts. Cuba is one of the poorest countries in the region. The average Cuban lives on $2 a day. But Sanders focuses on other things. When Castro came to power, they did a lot
to eliminate illiteracy in that country. So yes, you don’t have to praise everything
about Fidel Castro. It’s a dictatorship. It’s a poor economy.
We want changes. But have some good things been done in Cuba? Yes. Sanders downplays the fact that Castro’s government… tortured and murdered thousands of people… and stole most private property. [USSR national anthem] Sanders had a soft spot for other socialist
countries, too. [singing] He chose to hold his honeymoon in the Soviet Union. This video shows Sanders singing with his
Soviet hosts. [singing] This was filmed by the government-funded TV
station in Sanders’ home town. When Sanders returned from Russia, he had
lots of praise for the Soviet Union. Extremely impressed by their public transportation system. In fact, it was the cleanest, most effective
mass transit system I’ve ever seen in my life. [USSR national anthem] He found a lot to like about the socialist
country. In our country, we also have a housing crisis. We were there to say, yeah, we have problems,
you have problems. There are strengths to your system, there
are strengths to our system. Our goal was, let’s take the strengths
of both systems. [USSR national anthem] Now, sanders did qualify his support, calling
the Soviet Union “authoritarian and totalitarian”. He was more enthusiastic about Nicaragua’s
socialist revolution. There, the Sandinistas overthrew the country’s
dictator. They indoctrinated people, and imposed other
socialist policies like what they called… Land reform: giving, for the first time
in their lives, real land to farmers so that… they can have something that they grow. Nobody denies that they are making significant
progress. Former landowners denied that it was progress;
they’d had their land stolen. But they were rich people. Rich people, needless to say, who used to
have a good life there, are not terribly happy. As a socialist, the word socialism does
not frighten me… and I think it’s probably fair to say that the Nicaraguan government is primarily a socialist government. What about the poverty that socialism helped create? American journalists talk about how bad
a country is because people are lining up for food. That’s a good thing! In other countries, people don’t line up
for food. The rich get the food and the poor starve to death. When the Nicaraguan government inaugurated
it’s socialist leader Daniel Ortega… it invited Sanders. It’s unbelievable to say that a mayor of
a city of 38 thousand is now the highest-ranking… American to visit them during the celebration of their
revolution. Not that unbelievable, since others attending
included dictators, like Fidel Castro and… the vice president of the Soviet Union. But that didn’t dampen Sanders’ enthusiasm. How do you find the sincerity of Sandinista
leaders? I was impressed. Now, obviously I will be attacked by every
editorial writer in the free press for being… a dumb dupe. Maybe I am. Uh, I was impressed by their intelligence
and by their sincerity. Ortega is an impressive guy. Impressive? Nicaragua quickly fell further
into poverty… and the socialists were voted out. Now Ortega’s back in power and even CNN
agrees he’s terrible. Authoritarian ruler Daniel Ortega looked to
silence dissent… pitting gunfire and snipers against locals. Maybe Sanders was a “dumb dupe” about
Ortega. But after Sanders’ second trip to Nicaragua,
the country’s problems were unmistakable… But Sanders didn’t blame socialism, he blamed the U.S. The terrible economic suffering being experienced
by the Nicaraguan people… is a result of the US government financed war against them. Since Sanders got into congress, he’s mostly
stopped praising violent socialist revolutions. But he’s never taken back the extensive praise he’s given to all sorts of socialist regimes. I was impressed by the youth programs that they have. Cultural programs which go far beyond what we do in this country. Bernie! Bernie! Bernie! So, when Sanders now says he’s merely a democratic
socialist… keep in mind how he’s long praised violent socialist regimes. I hope you like these videos. They’re free. But, they’re not cheap. Please help us make more. Click on this button.

  3. This video, Bernie Sanders: "When I'm talking about democratic socialism I'm not talking about Venezuela, I'm not talking about Cuba"
Also this video: "Bernie Sanders wants socialism like in Cuba and Venezuela!"

There are things the government is constitutionally allowed to do for the welfare of the people. This is why we have roads, and schools. If we, the people, decide that it's appropriate to fund medical care the same way we fund education then we can. The same way they do it in European countries, or Canada. Socialism ≠ taxes for the general welfare. Socialism = government-controlled means of production.

  4. Sanders is a Socialist who talks about social reforms, but he has no record of reform. He is a millionaire, with 3 homes which shows his self indulgence to a very high degree. It is not likely that Sanders would do anything to jeopardise his own fortune…and definitely not the massively more powerful "Billionaire Club" Elite that he claims fortunes he will go after, and disperse it all to us ….working people…..and the POOR. How anyone could believe that lie is astonishing….."to say the least"?. The truth is the 1% Elite are pretty secure in their position of having a stranglehold on the resources of this planet. Should they choose…they could easily bring the world population to its knees. They need us to be compliant though…. willing sheep, oblivious and content with "Big Brother" watching over. This is why they are trying so hard to convince the world that a single world government would solve the world's problems, and end poverty. Not very likely! All of the tyrants in the past century have made the same claim…. and attempt….. and failed. No reason to believe it will happen any differently with the power hungry rich Oligarchs of this world. One will always rise to the top….. and it is never the "Nice Guy".

  14. This video makes no points against Sanders or Democratic Socialism other than by willfully conflating Sander's opinions on other societies' cleanliness, transportation and literacy programs 30 years ago as if he's endorsing authoritarianism. When Trump compliments Kim Jong-un or Putin does Maxim Lott call Trump a communist or dictator? It is such a stupid and tired tactic to suggest that if you're for more public programs, a.k.a. social programs like public libraries, public schools, and public healthcare that you are therefore supporting oppressive totalitarian regimes that murder their citizens. How convenient it is to not mention the socialism we deem acceptable like our socially-funded public military (our military is socialism in action) or our socially funded corporate welfare programs like oil subsidies or subsidies for farmers. This video is second rate propaganda with no context. Make a real argument against democratic socialism instead of using scare tactics. Yes, there are good arguments for and against it, but this is insulting the viewer. I'm surprised he didn't use Death Star music.

Also, having a socialist president doesn't make the whole country socialist, its not a revolution or a coup… its an election, and a democratic one. Way to fearmonger, bub

He wants to have absolute control over your lives, my life everyone's life. He wants to decide who gets to live and who must die. He wants to put everyone who disagrees with him in a concentration camp where you either become a good party member or you DIE!!! Elizabeth Warren and AOC are exactly the same!!! Make no mistake if Sanders ever gets the power he and his kind desire the United states of America will have a second civil war and if they win there will no longer be a United States of America nor will there ever be any nation like it ever again. The entire world will collapse into a communist dictatorships ran by fascist thugs and the world will be covered in the blood of all those who desire freedom!!!! Wake up America!!!! 18. Bernie attracts a fanatical following. Sanders could arrive at his political events in a new Ferrari and his followers wouldn't care. They don't care that he owns 3 properties, and is a millionaire. All the negative words he speaks about the United States is music to thier ears. It's harmony to his followers. Reality means nothing to his fans; his words are a fantasy and they live in a fantasy. His supporters are the misplaced people in our society. They don't fit in, and they have no interest in improvement. Basically the definition of walking miserable. Bernie has them brainwashed; he feels empowered and gets more brazen knowing this. I wish we could exile him to Cuba or the former USSR for 10 years; Then ask questions, and find out what kind of speeches he's interested in giving. I guarantee he'll be talking opposite, and crying wanting to come back to the best place on earth – The United States of America. At the end of the day he's nothing but a complete fraud.

Well no Bernie doesn’t want a USSR and doesn’t want a Gilded Age US. He wants a place in between and as we’ve seen yes the Soviet Union was bad and history proved that. And yes the late 1800s industrialist US was bad. There’s nothing perfect in the world except to have a comprise on the two systems

I got in touch with my birth mother recently after searching and she assured me socialism was not what they all thought it would be and is strongly against it. The worst time of her life, ever.

I was concerned that this video would reveal mindless praise of these regimes but it seems like he's wise enough to articulate that there are in fact aspects of their systems that perform better than ours (education, mass transit, etc) while not falling into leader worship. I understand the point of the video and I appreciate this look at his old interviews but speaking frankly I feel a little more comfortable with him and his judgement after watching his responses.
