State plans to dredge Ala Wai Canal


IT’S BEEN NEARLY TWO DECADES SINCE THE ALA WAI CANAL HAS BEEN DREDGED. EFFORTS TO REMOVE SEDIMENT FROM THE CANAL WILL START WAITED THIS MONTH. WORK HOURS WILL BE FROM 7:00 IN THE MORNING UNTIL 10:00 AT NIGHT MONDAY THROUGH SATURDAY. ACTIVITIES LIKE PADDLING A BE IMPACTED AND WILL TAKE THE REST OF THE YEAR TO FINISH THE PROJECT. CRUZ WILL TAKE OUT 186,000 CUBIC YARDS OF MATERIAL FROM THE CANAL. IT WILL BE TOWED TO AN EPA APPROVED SITE. IT WILL COST MORE THAN $21 MILLION. MUCH MORE TO COME ON THE NEWS.

    My dad said back in the 40s/50s people could swim in the ala wai canal it was so clean
