Urban Exploration inside Soviet Bomb Shelter (Bunker). LAT/ENG subs

Society of Urban explorers Grauzti presents videos from underground shelters and bunkers. More information available on our website: www.grauzti.lv Today Grauzti.lv gives You chance to look into the bunker, from which in case of war was planned conduct Latvian electricity transmission lines. The video will be displayed and you will be clearly informed about bunker structure. When You enter in bunker the first room is the vestibule ( From Russian тамбур ), which is a kind of air space, separated with a hermetic interior door. Vestibule aims to reduce pollution into the bunker, going in and out of it. When You enter in bunker, in vestibule You leave contaminated clothing. The people in this room was planned to hide from radiation, chemical threats as well as from the wreckage of collapsing buildings. As shown in plan, now we are in shelter room, taking into account, that each bunkers’ plannings are different, every bunker has his own plan set at the wall, in which can be seen meaning of each bunker’s room. To stay in a bunker enduring, the bunker was in need of food and water reserves. In the shelter room on the walls are usually located civil defense posters. Posters show you the basics what need to know everybody to protect himself, from the threat of war. Next in order of importance or even the most important is the bunkers’ control room, this room is in each bunker. Depending on the size of the bunker it may be seriously equipped with different devices, or as in this case, there is only one telephone switchboard. But with this telephone switchboard was enough to receive news not only from neighboring bunkers, but also from other bunkers throughout the Soviet Union. although telephone switchboard looks like large and its functions are somewhat primitive today, receive and transmit voice messages only. To be capable of working this telephone switchboard in bunker needed whole comunication room. Where were communication cabinets, which powered the telephone switchboard. Very much relays are located in these communication cabinets, which were designed to make connection to other similar communication equipment. In order to be able to breathe fresh air, the ventilation room is located in the bunker. Which provides refined clean air through the filters. We can demonstrate that this equipment is capable of being used. Air flows from the outside through the ventilation shafts in the bunker, which must be cleaned from potential contamination, to do this, in the bunker are located air filters. After we’ve let fresh air in, we can view the objects, which were necessary for the survival on the underground, they could be both – personal protective equipment and tools, as well as shown in the example- individual first aid kit, where were hold medical remedies. It was intended to prevent the severe effects of weapons of mass destruction, or prevent morbidity with infectious diseases. As I said at the beginning, this bunker is associated with the Latvian electric supply system, as well as it has an essential role in the Baltic electricity system. The bunker has working places for the people who work in the event of war, to ensure the Latvian power supply. On one of the walls of the room is a high-voltage line map, where you can see Lithuanian, Latvian, Estonian and part of Russian main high-voltage lines. Similar type of map is located in another bunker, which Grauzti.lv team visited in previous video It is possible now to see a link to the video at the bottom of the screen, the video has been viewed more than a hundred thousand times, if you haven’t watched it, we recommend that you do it now. For people who stay in bunker should be able to live normally, so in bunker toilets are located. This room and all others are designed with the idea that there should be all things indispensable to life, but at the same time, to avoid wasted resources. In cases where the entrance to the bunker would be blocked with wreckage from buildings or other things, there is an emergency exit. An emergency exit shall be constructed so as to reduce the possibility of their block. Emergency exit is usually approximately 20 m long corridor, where at the bunker side, as well as at the end of exit has built vestibule, similar to the main entrances. On emergency exit walls snails are visible, they can survive here, because all year in the bunker remains approximately 15 degrees Celsius temperature, regardless of the season. A constant temperature is maintained, because it is created under the ground and is sealed off from the world. Significant gasmask reserves have survived to the present in this bunker, which were intended to give employers in case of war. In very rare cases in bunkers can be found the diesel generator. Diesel generator room is high dangerousness, so it is separated from the rest of the bunker with vestibule. This room is very important because it has backup power source for situations when main power source is interrupted. This power source is diesel generator, which is deployed always in a separate room in bunkers. Diesel generator consists of diesel engine and electric generator. This particular diesel engine power is 40 horsepower, it weights 585 kg. Electric generator power is 50 kW, it makes 400 V voltage and weights 600 kg. In room without the equipment mentioned are the fuel tank, about 500 l capacity and two batteries. In brief about this bunker it is all, but to make longer video, we need your support, if You want to help us, like this video, share it in your profiles, subscribe to our channel and if this video in six months reaches 100,000 views, we will try to go to the bunker again and start the diesel generator or another existing device in bunker. In which device are you most interested in, write in comments. Also don’t forget to follow us on Twitter, find our Facebook page, follow on Instagram, and, if you like bunkers and related matters, You must visit Ligatnes Soviet secret bunker – museum, which is much bigger and more interesting than this one, and there you can see also Grauzti.lv photo exhibition of bunkers and shelters in Latvia today.

  1. It is nice and dry in there. Is it purposely build in a dry or self draining area, or is it continuously kept dry by ventilation and dehumidifiers?

  3. Thanks good video. Made me realize I'd rather die. Can you imagine living in their for months even years? I'll just stay outside so the rest can keep the food and water. I couldn't even imagine. Everyone would have to be on major antianxiety drugs. People would be horrible to each other. Noooooo.
