  1. Globalists have spent huge resources in establishing institutions across the world including media organisations, public and policy influencing bodies, banks and monetary funds, which help them in attaining political power and maintaining so. Such institutions, mostly funded by US taxpayer money, must be dismantled and replaced by newer global institutions which promote nationalistic policies across countries. Its the only way to tackle globalisation and mass migrations. Otherwise, the existing institutions will keep propelling only those to political power, who promote their globalist views !

  6. Did you notice that Hanson never once used the word ‘culture’ when criticizing the declining values in American society? If Hanson were honest, he would point out that America’s mercantilist mentality and consumerist priorities have been the greatest destroyers of an American democratic culture. For the past forty years, American’s have described themselves as consumers before being citizens. Also, Hanson’s understanding of German nationalism is way off base. In Louis Dumont’s great study ‘German Ideology’ he writes about the social ideologies that lead to different forms of nationalism. The French, influenced by the Enlightenment, have a Universalist vision of their nation, that is, they are ‘man by nature and a Frenchman by accident’. But Germans, influenced by the Reformation, have a cultural vision – They are ‘a German in the first place and a man through his being a German.’ Can even a flag waving American nationalist who votes once every two years be a genuine citizen? Much less ‘be a man through his being’ an American? Small chance. The German nation is comprised of various and differing cultures, just as America once was. What Hanson rightly described as tribalism in American (gays, blacks, Yankee fans, etc.) came about because Americans do not have, as Germans and other European countries do – a culture that provides individuals with a unique identity that can be at home in a unique culture. Unfortunately, Germans themselves have been losing that sense of self identity, mainly because the very word Kultur brings up a time German history that Germans are required to revile.

To bad we don’t have many more individuals like that anymore. That employee stands for pride and compassion for his country. The leftist was causing a commotion (disturbance) inside the restaurant with his mega horn or speaker 🔊

  14. The idea of "blood and soil" isn't unique to Germany. In fact, most of us recognize the concept. In the US, it's an intuitive part of our language. An African-American is exactly that, while I'm simply an American. Mr. Hansen inadvertently acknowledges this by using "Mexican-American," rather than "Americans of Mexican origin." We all know what "American" means, and that's okay. Tribalism is normal, natural, and has always been present. If a European claimed to be Chinese, they would get strange looks. He might have citizenship, he might speak the language, and he might even have fully assimilated into the culture of China, but he will never be Chinese. If a Chinese man claimed to be Kenyan, the same would apply. It's an absurd premise. Some nations happen to treat outsiders more kindly than others, but clearly our kindness has been exploited. The only people who are expected to sacrifice their identity are white westerners, whose collective identities have been reduced to one of ideas, rather than anything tangible. China is a nation and a people, and no matter what disagreements that they have, their goals are the survival and prosperity of China- even if that looks a little different to westerners. You can't expect a transplanted Pakistani to have genuine shared identity with the UK, a nation where his sole interest is his own personal prosperity.

  27. Good lord. Rome united peoples of different races and creeds without using coercion? What a ridiculous statement. You might want to interview some North Africans from the city of Carthage. Oh, that's right, the city was literally wiped off the face of the earth (archeologists are hard pressed to find any remains), and all the men, women and children slaughtered or sold into slavery, the usual fate of peoples who didn't submit. Julius Caesar "united" Gall and Rome by committing genocide against the native inhabitants. What kind of historian is this guy? The more credible historian Tacitus was frank and truthful enough to admit that the Romans "plunder, they slaughter, and they steal: this they falsely name Empire, and where they make a wasteland, they call it peace" (atque, ubi solitudinem faciunt, pacem appellant).

    Reply

  28. Well, the "citizens" of Rome massacred by the thousands under Sulla and the Second Triumvirate would love to have know they had property rights, as the state confiscated their property and murdered them without trial. The citizens of the empire who had abstract property rights would have loved to have known they could "make laws" under an absolute autocracy. Even under the Republic, they were largely giving the stamp of approval to laws presented to them by the patrician Senate. Greek democracies were the only case where "citizens" could actually make laws. And most Greek city-states weren't democracies anyway. This guy is one of those extreme Eurocentric historians who singles out one feature, like legal recognition of private property for citizens in Roman law, and thinks that proves that Europe, despite all the slavery and despotism, was somehow superior to Asia. Anyway, private property existed much the same under Asian empires ås well as a private market sector, even if technically property was ultimately owned by the Emperor. The only difference I can think of is that these Asian empires did not have mass chattel, plantation slavery like Rome, just domestic slavery. Indeed under Chinese "despotism" there was a free peasantry. Sparta was a "republic" with "citizens," but the state decided which babies to expose as unfit to become future warriors (talk about a "death panel"!) And it had enslaved the entire indigenous population of the area, the Helots, and by law could freely murder any of them, at any time. In Athens so long as democracy persisted (under the 30 tyrants there was a mass judicial execution perpetrated by associates of Socrates and Plato), there was freedom of political participation and equality under the law and the right to jury trials but there was no freedom of religion. Remember Socrates? Executed for undermining the state religion. This guy shows how right the academic world was to push towards a more broad-minded world historical perspective on history, not this kind of narrow apology for "the West," which can't be sustained by any historian who cares about evidence.

  41. American Nationalism has been racialist since the beginning. The earliest immigration policies restricted immigration to Europeans only. The idea that Americanism is defined by culture alone is postmodernist. The melting pot idea was invented in the 20th century. The Constitution means nothing if all the people it was meant to represent are gone.

First of all a Master never serves anyone, you are his servant and each and every master will extract from all of you all he can.
If we had true freedom then our money would be our money and the common law would be the only law needed.
Nationism cripples us all, you are sucked try so that a few at the top reap the rewards that you and I suffer to give them.

  44. I am sorry to say this but Victor Hanson has to review his knowledge of German and European History. Claiming that Germany started 3 wars after its unification it goes beyond the common consensus of many historians. One of my sources the Historians R. Palmer and Joel Colton clearly stated that Germany did not start the First World War but it was the consequence of European Alliances that cause WWI. The other war Hanson claims Germany started the Franco Prussian war it also goes against historical facts. That war was the consequence of the permanent French intervention in German internal affairs from the 30 years war to Napoleon manipulating and invading the German states. Please Mr. Hanson review your History and maybe be little more fair to The German nation.

  46. He’s not entirely right about the Ottomans. For most of their history they encouraged diversity, organised under religious groupings. The various ‘millets’, or nations, were governed at a regional level by their religious leaders. It was a more modern nineteenth century concept of racial nationalism which destroyed this fairly successful equilibrium.

    Excellent lecture by the way.

  48. Dr. Hanson. A couple of questions:
    1. Why would you deny the vote on the school board to illegal immigrants? I know "fairness" is an issue, but what is the sociological reason for doing so?
Do you want people to have their tax dollars, which are extracted from them whether they are citizens or not, to mean less?
    2. Why would you say americans should do anything other than go to college? As you say the winnebagos outside of Stanford University are a really good indicator – if you don't go to school and don't have a degree in science and technology in this world, then you really are without the means to understand the world of bandgaps and quantum physics and computers and materials science we live in. Its absolutely a stark comparison on university avenue in Palo Alto between the rulers and the ruled.
How do we prevent this from being generational? SOCIALISM MOTHER FUCKER!!! Free schools, free health care and less of your bullshit.

  49. Multiracial/ethnic/religious/class/gender society could work if citizenship was earned by means of military service for example. Universal suffrage was a huge mistake. It will balkanize because political party democratic game is won by tapping in to tribal instincts. The one who offers status and recognition for free will always win over the one offering mere opportunity.
Soon, Republican party will become party for Whites and few fellow travelers as Democrats suggest now. If Republicans resist that for noble reasons, they will loose.
Nevertheless it will lead to economic decline, conflict and lawlessness either way.
I predict Military dictatorship will be the next best option. Abolishing universal suffrage and the FED as main sources of power and $ for democratic (in Plato sense) politics.
Would you like to know more?

Some of the push by special interests has hijacked conservatism and is part of the takeover of the elite to render the middle class as expendable. But then in his question session he seems to be totally unaware of trump's shortcomings. That speaks to a sectionally closed mind. No one in their right mind can ignore trump's true nature and call themselves well thought. All books about his presidency from inside sources say the same thing…he's a can of worms requiring "adults in the room" to keep the train on the rails. Liberals aren't perfect. But neither are conservatives. In truth, we are like two halves of the same brain and need each other to steer an optimum course. For either side to take full control, such as the radical right's stated goal to be the permanent party in power for the oligarchs, is madness unfolding and the destruction of our democratic experiment. Democracy lives in the middle of the bell shaped curve and dies at the extremes. We need each other to cover all the bases. Anything less deteriorates into the ciaos of the human condition.
