Workers & Resources: Soviet Republic Quick Start Guide | Part 0: The Basics

hey thanks for joining me just thought
I’d put together a quick series of videos how to get started I’ve been
seeing a lot of coverage of this game focus building out cities but not
necessarily doing sort of a how-to guide just because there’s no wiki at the
moment and this seems like a really fun exciting game especially with a great
road map I’m gonna go ahead and link the developers road map in the description
below but without further ado let’s go ahead and get started I’m gonna be using
the regular Eastern Europe medium Hills map a full starting population for our
purposes let’s start with easy money and I would recommend if this is your first
time starting with small or easy unsatisfied citizens reactions just
because if you’re not providing all the services what I found is your population
will slowly dwindle all the way down to zero and that’s not something we want
happening for energy management we’re gonna use buildings and vehicles
day/night cycles enabled normal fires you know with ears start at nineteen
sixty just to make it a little easier with your vehicle choices
as well as complex education simulation all right right so real basic controls
just to go over WASD Keys move the camera around you click down the middle
mouse button you can move the camera and and you use mousewheel zoom in and out and then
if you click and drag with the right mouse button you can move around the map
much more quickly this is something that I don’t see a lot of folks doing
and it makes your life so much easier so to start we’re gonna just build out over
here as a way to get started right over here so first things first is we’re
going to need to set up a number of different industries so in this game
there’s a bunch of different industries and they allow you to produce many
different things through different so what makes the skin so what makes this game interesting is the number of different
industries that are available in the game as well as the different ways that
they can be constructed so you can produce you know gravel coal steel bricks
wood to be turned into boards basically a whole bunch of different building
materials that your people can actually assemble for you as opposed to just
paying cash for purchasing buildings as you would at another city builder so
just to get started first things first is that we’re going to either want to
produce power or going to want to import it so in our case we’re going to do a
little bit of both right here so hold down the left mouse button to flatten the
terrain before you build it up to build and just because it’s free we’re going
to build with mud roads so connect it up to the main road here
so because we purchased the building with rubles we’re gonna see it being
built here either the choice to auto build with rubles or dollars or if
you unchecked and leave in both unchecked you can have your people build
it once you have your sort of construction supply chain set up except
we’re going to drop a gas station because the vehicles that we produce are
going to need gas to operate and the Auto purchase resources box right here
because you need fuel to fill up your vehicles you can set the amount so we’re
going to just pop it down a little bit down here and purchase with rubles and
we’re going to need a road vehicle depot as well so connect that up yellow line
here shows that once the power plants operating it’s going to be powering the
building’s here so just bring this road up a little bit and so now while that’s building we’re going
to also build our residential buildings for just a little starter city here
so there are a number different buildings I’ve found that this
particular one here holds the most amount of workers for a pretty
reasonable price the other thing too is that when you build your building you’re
going to invite citizens to work in your country so if you leave this un-ticked
here you’ll build the building empty but if you tick it and invite from using
rubles or dollars so we’ll get a couple of these built and so your citizens are going to have
different needs and so each building when you click on it will show you a
number of different things so for instance this building doesn’t have
power there are folks without jobs children can’t go to school so that can be one area to troubleshoot
and another interesting point about the game is that everybody walks to work
unless you have a transportation system set up so buses or trains or trams in
our case we built our buildings close enough we can check this to see that [the] power plant can be reached on foot so folks are going to walk from the tenement here
over to the power plant which we need to import resources for so we’re going to
import coal which is going to be turned into power so now you should see that
this building this one and let’s see here so all these buildings are
receiving power from power plant next up we’re going to connect the power plant
to the border here and use our high voltage wires to export power that we’re
producing and so to make sure that that’s happening you click on the power
transformer here that’s on the border and set it to export or sell mode and
then also indicate the amount of wattage that you’d want to sell so I’m just
gonna set that there so now we have very small economy set up but we have workers
in this building going in working at the coal power plant and producing
energy which we are selling to the USSR for rubles
so we’ll see our balance ticking up in addition to that there is another border
here on the map indicated by a NATO symbol so we can export resources for
dollars because we’ve chosen the 1960s starting point there aren’t too many
vehicles that we can purchase with dollars so for now it’s in our best
interest to be earning roubles so we have our tenement here sending
folks to work in the power plant but I don’t necessarily think so this
tenement this tenement people living there do not have a way to go to work
here so we’re going to focus that by creating a footpath that snakes around so people ideally walk
to work so now we can see that the distance is small enough that people are
able to walk over to there to work and in addition to that if you want to be
specific you can use this button down here to select where your citizens that
live in this building are going to go to work so right there
and you’ve set it so that everybody who lives in this building is going to go
work in the power plant in addition to that we’re gonna provide
some basic needs here for citizens go to the residential buildings tab we can
drop a football field grocery store small store providing clothes and
electronics so at this point we have a very very
very basic setup here we have tenements built and a place for people to work
we’re providing alcohol meat food clothes electronics and a place to
participate in sports at so a lot of our basic needs are being fulfilled further
on we’ll talk about some more in-depth concepts thanks for joining me
